John F Morrow IV

I am a Doctoral Candidate in Robotics Engineering at Oregon State University, advised by Cindy Grimm and Ravi Balasubramanian. My work is on understanding how a robot hand’s design affects its ability to manipulate objects in-hand. To do this, I make novel benchmarks and a novel human study design to estimate the upper potential of what a hand can do. Expected to graduate in Summer 2022.

I also have a Masters in Robotics Engineering from OSU, advised by Yigit Menguc. I built a prototype 3d printer that could print silicone structures without support material. I have a BA in Robotics Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

In my undergrad I participated in research on soft robot hands with Dmitry Berenson - I made fingers with integrated liquid metal sensors and embedded hard fingertips for tabletop grasping.

Outside of my research, I am a husband to a wonderful wife and father of two sons. I also enjoy playing table tennis (although my skills are quite lacking), reading books, modifying flashlights, and watching film (both animated and live-action). But at the end of the day its usually lots of legos with my boys.

You can find my current publications under the Publications section. The Teaching section contains my current teaching experience. The CV section has a reasonably up to date CV for you to peruse. I’m working on other pages to showcase my projects, but those are currently in progress.

Have a good one and thanks for coming!
